Coming Around Again is the 13th studio album by the American singer-songwriter Carly Simon, released by Arista Records, on April 13, 1987.

The kickoff of many albums Simon recorded for Arista, the title rails was written for and featured in the 1986 moving picture Heartburn, along with "Itsy Bitsy Spider". As a single, it became a worldwide striking; in the US, it peaked at No. 18 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Simon's 12th superlative twoscore hitting, and it reached No. 10 in the UK. The album itself reached No. 25 in both the United states and the UK. It was certified Silver by the BPI in September 1987, and Platinum by the RIAA in early 1988.[2] It has since sold well-nigh ii million copies in the US. Presently subsequently the album'south release, a live outdoor concert also entitled Carly Simon – Coming Effectually Again was recorded in June 1987 on Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts for HBO, and later released on video and DVD as Live From Martha'south Vineyard.[3] On a pier in forepart of an invited audition, Simon and her band performed eight of the album's eleven songs, forth with some of her greatest hits. The concert was likewise released as a live album in 1988 entitled Greatest Hits Live.

On October 27, 2017, Hot Shot Records released a 30th Anniversary deluxe edition of the album. The two disc set includes six bonus tracks, including a 12" extended remix of the single "Give Me All Nighttime", and the Oscar winning "Let the River Run", along with a 2d disc consisting of Simon's same Greatest Hits Live album, retitled for this ready as Carly in Concert – Coming Effectually Again. An in-depth interview with Simon is likewise included in the albums booklet.[four]

Critical reception [edit]

Writing for Rolling Stone, Rob Hoerburger gave a positive review of the album and wrote, "Coming Around Again is a strong reminder of how refreshing a diversion Carly Simon tin can exist".[5]

People was likewise positive, "Simon remains, even afterwards all this emotional turmoil, perhaps the almost interesting of women pop singers. This album, proves she is even so captivating."[vi]

Stephen Holden, writing for The New York Times, stated, "Coming Around Again, the latest and ane of the strongest chapters in a growing catalogue, embodies everything that the 41-year-quondam singer-songwriter does best. Of all the confessional vocalist-songwriters who emerged out of the 60's counterculture to confide their personal feelings in recorded pop song cycles, she has been ane of only a handful to sustain a major characterization recording career of such duration. And of that handful, she has stayed the closest to the personal confessional way."[7]
